Family Sunday

The holiday program of the Museum Schloss Bruck from July 6th to August 31st, 2025 at 2:00 PM

Playing, painting, crafting, and marveling with the whole family

Where it is usually very quiet, so quiet that you can hear even the smallest creaking of the centuries-old beams... Where one contemplates great art thoughtfully, art that one would not expect outside of urban museum districts, such as the fascinating works of Albin Egger-Lienz... Where one discovers medieval craftsmanship in silent amazement – things will soon be bustling again!

The Museum of the City of Lienz kicks off the shortened season with a colorful program for children. An entertaining mix of painting fun and imagination, journeys of discovery into the Middle Ages and exciting legends, sweetened with lots of fun, games, and crafting – all of this awaits the young visitors of Schloss Bruck.

Playing where counts once lived

Family Sundays are an important part of the work of the Museum of the City of Lienz. Because even though it may be a fun afternoon of playing, an entertaining fairy tale hour, or a great adventure for the children – it is also important cultural work. The young visitors immerse themselves in the history of the residence castle of the Counts of Gorizia and the region in southern Austria, discover their surroundings with completely different eyes, and let their creativity run wild.

In this way, they experience art, culture, and history as it should be: exciting, fun, and worth sharing. Those who play where counts once lived also open their eyes to the wonders and diversity of culture in other areas and learn a new language – the language of art – in a simple way.

And one thing is clear: the well-being of the children is paramount. This means, of course, limited group sizes this year, advance registration, and clearly assigned play and crafting materials. We keep our distance from each other in order to be able to be very close to art and history.

Dates and contents of the Family Sundays

The games are open! (06.07, 27.07, and 17.08. 2025)
What did young people play in the past? Mobile phones, computers, and other electronic games were far from existing. Here you can prove yourself in various disciplines such as skill, mental sports, and strength by participating in the competitions of our game tournament at Schloss Bruck! A medieval game certificate awaits all players.

Glänzende Steinchen – Geschichten aus alten Zeiten (13.07., 03.08 und 24.08.2025 )
Already over 1,600 years ago, at the Council of Nicaea, colorful mosaics told of faith, power, and stories. Large pictures emerged from many small stones. How did people do that? Find out with us - and become a mosaic artist yourself! Together we create sparkling pictures to take home.

Mix it up! Collage / Painting / Printing (July 20th, August 10th and 31.08.2025)
Art is not a one-way street. Discover exciting printing techniques with us and create works with collage technique. These two techniques cannot be combined? Wrong thought. Everything is allowed in art. Connect these two different techniques at the family Sunday at the castle and be surprised by the result. Is there also an artist in you?

Whether we use homemade stamps made of potatoes or create collages alá upcycling, is entirely up to your imagination. In addition, a mixed technique can emerge: The stamps can easily transform into a self-designed surreal landscape with cut-out sculptures or fluffy little clouds into a fantasy world.
