THE TEACHER. Hugo Engl and Egger-Lienz

On the 170th birthday, the collection Egger-Lienz sheds light on the first teacher of young Albin in the modular rooms. Rarely shown works Hugo Engls from the city"s property, paired with family loans, honor Egger"s mentor before his path to the Academy in Munich.

With his genre and hunting paintings, especially with his landscape depictions, Engl proved to be an unusually "modern" successor to Defregger - and was appreciated by Egger-Lienz throughout his life. Still in 1925, a year before the death of the two East Tyrolean painters, the student quasi as a tribute made a copy of one of Engl"s works, regardless of the now great artistic distance in his own works.
