I am finished.
Albin Egger-Lienz † 1926
June 13 to October 11, 2026
Museum Schloss Bruck, Lienz
When Leopold Hauer visited Egger-Lienz shortly before his death in St. Justina
near Bozen and asked the painter what he was working on now,
he gets the answer:
I am finished.
Is this just the temporary exhaustion of the one marked by illness
- or do these words also express the
consciousness of having said what he had to say?
On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of Albin Egger-Lienz the Museum of the City of Lienz Schloss Bruck dedicates itself to the last years of the pioneer of the Austrian Modernist movement, both in its special exhibition area and in the collection area.
Due to the collapse of the Habsburg Empire and the war-related cession of South Tyrol to Italy, Albin Egger-Lienz (1868 - 1926) based in Bozen finds himself in a completely new cultural and political context.
Regime des Faschismus, blendet Egger-Lienz weitgehend aus. Regime des Faschismus, blendet Egger-Lienz weitgehend aus.
But even in his old homeland, Egger remains active, creating an artistic memorial for Lienz with the Warrior Memorial Chapel. Above all, his work on the Pieta, in which he approaches the Renaissance master Andrea Mantegna in his own unique way, leaves a lasting impression in the art world.
In the exhibition are with Loans from the Tyrolean State Museums and the Leopold Collection, but also from private hands, Lentos in Linz and works from Italy Masterpieces united that are worthy of the life of the great Austrian artist - a unique special exhibition for his 100th anniversary.
